Reading my original post, I clarify I do not agree that committment and lifetime dedication is a quality exclusive to only heterosexuals, if that's how it came across.
Of course there are equally lasting and successful relationships amongst the broader span of sexuality; everyone is entitled to seek happiness and fulfilment with their chosen "partner" or soulmate. Nothing is certain in life, and we all have to take chances when committing to relationships, and make our own decisions.
It is when children and adoption come into the equation things can get complex. The happiness and overall security of any children, to me, is the most major issue in this difficult debate.
