watso was thinking - but how valid is the rtc date for marrow bones??. if given to a dog, they might chew on it a bit, then hide it for a week or two, find it again, chew on it a bit, then hide it again .

surely in the old days, this is the type of bone which got tossed to the fertilizer factory, and became a part of blood and bone fertilizer -but now about $5/kg as some super food

If the marrow bones are cut lengthwise just throw them out as they are no longer any good, even for the dogs

The marrow dries up within a short time if it is exposed especially if it's been frozen

Next time get it only if it is cut through (shortened) and the marrow must be soft and fresh

Cook it with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar with a potato and an onion for 48 hours at a very low simmer in the hot pot. Pressure cooker works well and can cut the time to 5 hours

Strain and then use as beef stock in a vegetable soup
