Japanese JJ ok. Bjj - No way. even then, how much fighting do you do off your back in JJ? not much? How many technical submissions do you see in JJ competitions. Yes excellent throws and great top control but when was the last time someone subbed someone from their back, from deep half guard or even a choke from the back in JJ? I understand that competition is different from reality -fought a lot of comps and had a few no comp fights too - but it doesnt change the fact that JJ doesn't drill alot of subs of escapes from subs.

I guess that still makes it well rounded though, or at least more well rounded than BJJ in term of overall flexibility. No way a straight up JJ fighter beats a BJJ fighter of similar grade and experience, a freestyle wrestler or a folk wrestler in grappling though.

To think BJJ has not evolved beyond gound judo is just wrong. the vast majority of BJJ subs, particularly the no-gi subs are really new in the scheme of things. Eddie Bravo's work for example, Dave Camarillo for another example.

for evidence of this check out BJ Penn schooling the crap out of judo black belts on the ground as a new brown belt with 2 years experience. No one even comes close to him.

i agree MT has pretty much no grappling apart from the clinch. But if you saw dan henderson, olympic greco roman competitor get belted by anderson in round two before being subbed, or rich franklin's head get smashed twice whilst in anderson's clinch you would have to admit the thai clinch is pretty effective.

    why pick anderson:

fights at middleweight, walks around well over 100kg. is great everywhere.
did you see the BJ penn v Lyoto Machida fight (it's on youtube)from K1? BJ was outweighed by at least 20kg on fight day and he was coming in fat - really fat even by Bj standards, fighting machida as a heavyweight.

Lyoto was lucky to win a decision - came nowhere near knocking him out and the victory was far from decisive. Fedor routinely beat guys that were significantly bigger - over 50 kg's bigger.

to think that any UFC heavyweight would have an easy time of anderson, a big middleweight with big reach and deceptive strength is just deluded.

Overroid - glass chin. did you seehim get KTFO by chuck in pride? big muscles don't toughen your chin.

on a lighter note.. hope you get Lombard out to your gym. seminars are awesome. you learn heaps.

    good luck.
