They encountered sand (which is good) but it is under water (which is bad). Since they were shooting for the edge of the formation they expected some of the sand could be under water (same as posiedon 2). They are trying to identify the edge of the hydrocarbon containing formation just as they did with P2 so they can estimate the volume of the recoverable hydrocarbons. But they are being unclear as to how much of the sand (if any) is above water. So somewhere between Maruja-1 and Maruja-2 the sands begin to go below the water contact line. The fact the sands extend this far shows it is a sizeable find. So not bad news but not great news either, so far. As with most KAR releases it leaves some questions.
