I think it is because the people who were perceived to be negative were the ones who had ideas that were different to the way things were currently being done. So they were the ones with the new ideas, the new solutions, the new technology!
If they had been ignored, we might still be in the stone age.
Don't know how much relevance it has to this stock/trading/investing but still, I think it's an interesting concept
