    G'day denman,

In the end the electorate didn't believe Latham could deliver on his grand Whitlamesque promises (Gough couldn't either). He was very cynical with his medicare gold policy trying to buy the grey vote but they woke up to his implausable promise. Why not promise the same for all under ten? Why, they can't vote of course.

The forestry gamble failed too; he stitched up a preference deal with the greens then promised to save the forests so he would be sure of getting all the lower house preferences as well - hoping to snare all the mainland chardonnay sippers. And at the end of the day the electorate also got tired of his "liar" campaign - it smacked of schoolyard name calling.

We can be thankful for the result - the market is up today on the back of it.
