Call for 'master plan' on minerals export from Port Pirie
    Updated 28 June 2011
Momentum to establish a mineral resources export facility at Port Pirie is growing, as the Port Pirie Recorder reports in two stories.

WPG Resources? acquisition of a key block of land has brought an iron ore export terminal in Port Pirie a step closer, the Recorder reports.

WPG is understood to have exchanged contracts with SA?s Land Management Corporation to buy the old Shell depot, in George Street.

The company told the Recorder it had paid a deposit and settlement would take place when the development application was approved on a sale price of about $1 million.

Executive chairman Bob Duffin told the Recorder the development application would be approved early in July.

Meanwhile, a Port Pirie builder told the Recorder a major investor had visited the city ?looking to invest in a project that would involve desalination and ports?.

Port Pirie businessman ?Bluey? Johnson believes the investor has access to funding for up to $1 billion but said there was some confusion and a ?master plan? was needed.

?It doesn?t matter who does it ? we need to see a 10-year master plan for Port Pirie,? Bluey says.
