I have posted a chart with comments, however I don't entirely agree with your analysis.

As shown by the lines drawn on the chart there are many higher lows and higher highs.
You said, "MAT has been in downtrend for over 3 years and I believe that it is about to break that downtrend"
Correct from 03/2013 it commenced the downtrend from its high.
You may be correct, that it may be about to break the long term downtrend, however there is nothing technically suggesting this, nor is there any volume at this point significant enough to suggest this.
Its first crucial hurdle is the break of the down trend line. One big issue with this stock is the total lack of volume.
To ensure you can buy and exit safely without getting caught as a rule of thumb ensure there is 25-30x the volume of what you buy being traded on a daily basis.
