The reason the equation is not in SI units is because it is a very specific equation created for a very specific purpose within the oil and gas industry. The oil and gas industry, especially the drilling side, is completely based around the imperial system.
Every pipe, casing, tool joint, thread, yield strength, pressure rating etc is all imperial.
