CBA culture = Banking Culture, there is no way around this despite how many people wanting to believe there are more ethically aligned banks. The only difference is the others may have better safety nets/legal structures in place to hide/defend against their malpractices. An external appointment would 100% take the onus of responsibility off the new CEO short-term. At the same time however, appointing of Matt would ensure his talent remains on board rather than seeking greener pastures elsewhere. This at least prevents a repeat, with the likes of Ross McEwan(now RBS CEO) after the appointment of Narev as Norris' successor back in 2011.
