Agree with last comments as Matt is a talented guy and good track record however the prior comment re independence is a good one.
The question is will Matt be able to make the hard calls and drive the changes that are necessary. Incumbency, Legacy, dare I say “complicity” are all questions which will cloud the air here.
An external can come in and drive a fresh approach with no shackles of the past. Whether Matt will be able to step up to the plate here which may include burning some of his peers as well as closing down areas he may have indeed been involved in building.
