MZI’s share price has outperformed its rivals. Its shares are up almost 30 per cent over the past year compared with 50 per cent-plus falls at Base Resources and Mineral Deposits and the 12.7 per cent slide at market leader Iluka Resources.

The weak conditions elsewhere in the resources sector has helped take some of the stress out of the construction at Keysbrook.

“We’ve had no cost pressure. The sum we negotiated with GR Engineering two years ago is the sum we’re paying now and there’s no claims and no variations come through,” Mr Matthews said.

“It can be hard to get sales agreements in a soft market, it can be hard to get funding. But on the other side of it we’ve got the benefit of no real pressure on cost, we’ve put in place construction contracts that offer us a lot of protection.”
