    Bandar Seri Begawan - Drilling of the first well (Mawar-1) will start in July 2010 for a month, to be followed by the second well in late August 2010. Road works which comprise the upgrading of the existing 3.6km of logging road and building of access road to the well-site have begun with the clearing of the forest area at the well-site location.

    Earthworks and construction of gravelled Mawar-1 well-site are ongoing and rig mobilisation will start in mid-June.

    This was highlighted by Brunei National Petroleum Company (PetroleumBRUNEI) and its operator Tap Energy (Borneo) Pty Ltd at a briefing to update its stakeholders on the upcoming seismic and drilling activities on Block M, yesterday.

    PetroleumBRUNEI was represented by its Chief Petroleum Engineer, Pg Hj Mohd Amirrudin bin Pg Hj Razali while Tap Energy was represented by its Chief Geophysicist Suni Hj Sulaiman and Acting Country Manager, Mr Blaine Ulmer.

    The briefing which was held at the Labi Multipurpose Hall was chaired by Hj Aziman bin Hj Tengah Special Duties Officer from the Belait District Office.

    Present were the Penghulu of Mukim Labi, village heads, government representatives and villagers from Labi. Amongst the content presented were Block M's 2010 exploration activities and its schedule, road improvement works and the construction for the wellsite.

    To date, the JV has 2D and 3D seismic data. In 2010, Tap Energy plans to acquire additional seismic and also to drill two exploration wells.

    According to a press statement, the seismic 3D acquisition to be acquired in 2010 will cover approximately 131 sq km.

    The acquisition will last for seven months and its mobilisation will begin in mid-May. The majority of the proposed 2010 3D survey will be conducted in Mukim Bukit Sawat, with a small portion in the southeast extending into Mukim Labi.

    PetroleumBRUNEI manages and regulates Block M which covers an area of 3,011 sq km exploration permit located in the south of Brunei covering all of the Belait District (except Brunei Shell Petroleum's acreage in Seria/ KB) and extending into the south of Tutong District.

    The Block M Joint Venture (JV) comprises Tap Energy (Borneo) Pte Ltd (39 per cent), Kulcyzk Oil Brunei Limited (36 per cent), China Sino Oil Co. Ltd (21 per cent) and Jana Corporation Sdn Bhd (four per cent).-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
