The way I see it, this is a double edged sword. SMN beholden to Boeing is the issue. Now this could push the FAA to increase the automation of fatigue checking, +ve for SMN or Boeing are so busy fighting a rear guard action that SMN is impacted. Now United report that the bolts were loose on a number of planes, i would argue that this is occurring due to vibration of planes at take off and landing ( I'd rather believe that is not an issue at the Boeing factory). The more we can automate processes and procedures the better.
