May Election?
Sauce: 11:00am
The rumour mill seems to be turning quicker this morning. We've heard similar stories in the past that have developed into nothing however this one seems to be getting more traction.
There is a belief Julia Gillard will be allowed time to deliver the Apology for Forced Adoption before a leadership spill with both Kevin Rudd and Simon Crean in the running.
Simon Crean this morning said "I think you stop the stalemate by getting people to pull back and understand it's in our interests to act in a more unified way... If Kevin Rudd had the numbers he would have challenged."
He refused to reveal how he'd vote in a ballot claiming it was a hypothetical question which, according to SMH writer Stephanie Peatling, leaves the door wide open to the headline "Crean won't say he'll back Gillard".
Joel Fitzgibbon went public yesterday on the issue, with Graham Perrett today calling for him to "put up or shut up" before closing with this:
"They need to either resign or re-sign... If we're not one team, forget about it."
