My peers (Gen X mostly) have 2 kids sharing bedrooms in 3 bed 1 bath houses because we can't afford the 4 bed 2 + bath houses. Alternatively people arent having kids at all cause we can't afford to house them in their own bedroom. This is notwithstanding the fact that we have done all the right things - gone to uni, climbed the ladder and now have good salaries.
