The Australian stock market was marginally lower at noon as investors went into holiday mode, following a neutral lead from the US overnight.

The market was lacklustre, moving sideways amid light volumes as investors prepared for the Christmas break.

"Volumes are pretty light and will remain so for the next week or so mainly due to the holiday season," ABN Amro Morgan adviser Lisa Jarvis said.
