Boost for Coast as Blades’ $1.8bn man joins board
ENGLISH property tycoon Kevin McCabe is poised to become a significant investor in the Central Coast Mariners in a move which could transform the A-League’s smallest club into one of the most prosperous in the competition.
McCabe, who owns Sheffield United and also has stakes in Chinese side Chengdu Blades and Hungary’s most famous club, Ferencvaros, yesterday took a seat on the Mariners board in what is likely to be a precursor to becoming a major stakeholder.
McCabe has a personal fortune estimated at $1.8thbillion after selling a majority share of his property company two years ago, and has long demonstrated a willingness to invest some of that wealth in football.
