It will be telling if one of the next announcements that MEO makes is not about the ball buster deal that it has inked, but instead about the details of its MD's remuneration for FY'14.
July 2012 Jurgen Hendrich was awarded an annual pay package of $510,000 plus a further $125,000 in short term bonuses because:
'The Remuneration and Nomination Committee completed an assessment of the Managing Director’s performance against a suite of short term Key Performance Indicators. For the past year, priority was attributed to the successful implementation of several extensive seismic acquisition projects, the advancement of exploration and appraisal activities in key Indonesian and Australian permits and the re-positioning of the Tassie Shoal projects. With this preparation and the strengthening of the MEO executive team, the Company is well positioned for future growth. The Managing Director has been pro-actively communicating the Company’s activities to the local and overseas markets. In recognition of his overall performance, the Board has agreed to make a Short Term Incentive award of $125,000.'

'Regrettably', it looks like the above bonus was a bit premature. Christmas certainly did come early for JH last year (unlike shareholders) and now, though we no longer stand on the 'precipice of prosperity' I wonder what bountiful booty will be forth coming with this years remuneration review. My bet is that there will be either no change to base salary or (reluctantly) may be a token reduction as a gesture to MEO shareholders.

After 5 years at he helm, its time to actually deliver on that future growth so often espoused by the board & management.
