On Landline today there was a story about the Murray River under threat due to too much water cutting the banks away at the Barmah Choke
For those of us that have lived long enough to know that part of the river also know that in times of high water the surrounding lands flooded ( Murray Red gums are quite happy to stand in water)
The problem arises now because much of the surrounding land has been now developed into farms and they don't want flooding!
So nature had a system that worked well for centuries and then man comes along and changes nature and complains (and wants money) that they have to fix the problems caused by incorrect water usage by irrigation farmers
This is the same argument put forward re the bush fire prevention and one of our Aboriginal posters said that the problem was that they used to work "with" the land whereas white ( meaning greedy and stupid people of any color) try to force the land to accept what we do to it
In a country where we have lots of space this attitude is Un-necessary and wrong
