Just had a further read on the MDT testing by Schlumberger and Baker Hughes and it is really good to note that a Dual Parker MDT can be used as a mini- Drill Stem Test (DST) to carry out a productivity assessment of the reservoirs i.e flow testing.
Basically the dual inflatable parkers isolates the zone of interest over a one meter interval within the oil/gas column. The area open to flow is three times of magnitude larger than conventional probe allowing larger flows.
Some companies like to carry out mini-drill stem test while drilling or after TD before doing a build up flow testing. A build up flow testing takes days/weeks and is done by allowing flow for a while, shut down for days and re-opened again for a sustained flow period. The mini-DST and the DST can both be used for quick flow testing. Rockhopper Exploration have regularly carried out Mini-DST on their Sea lion oil discoveries.
So ADX might just be utilizing the MDT to carry out flow testing of the zones of interest even as they are trying to confirm reservoir fluid composition, permeability and characteristics.
That is a positive development IMHO. No oil discovery no flow testing. Lets hope the next announcement gives interpretation of the wireline logs, porosity, permeability, gross pay and net pay thickness, OOIP & OGIP and recovery factors.
