Agree there is very little risk on the options, but let's face it, they are free and consequently carry no downside risk no matter what the terms.

What works in our favour is that ME wants his millions of shares and oppies sitting at [20/30/50/100/whatever] cents per share so he can kick back in his moo-moo and enjoy the pia coladas.

If ME turns into a multi-squillionare through FAR, then he will be happy (assuming the link between money and happiness is true). So will I.

Lets drill.

PS - it is very common for company directors to have their shares in a holding company, trust, or some other vehicle.
