If you will read subsequent comments I am in agreement with your first point. In fact the whole emotive school zone example being used to me is a bit of a false example. It also comes from the US where I dont think a points system necessarily apply. To me the argument is less to do with points issues or with DUI type suspensions and more with statutory fines which are levied for an offence without discretion. ie council fines, parking issues, criminal infringement notices.
