when I started really researching and looking at masses of now available official documents including foreign office, mi5 and cia I came to the conclusion that the very reason they didn’t intervene when Arab nations attacked in 1948 may well have been that they thought the Arabs would win and the whole matter would ge settled forever

both British and Americans were, by then, hostile to Israel for a whole variety of reasons but mostly lingering antisemitism, and a view that having peeled off Jordan from the mandate and thus creating an even greater problem in partition, they were in regular communication with the king about the how, and when, of the invasion.

during 1947 the British were actively working against the not yet born Israel and cooperating with Jordan

Israel basically screwed it up by winning

by then Russia had also worked out that Israel was not going to become communist so they too turned against Israel setting in place decades of propaganda

US later appeared to partner with Israel but it was convenient not close and they played both sides

    idiots and despicable

if the international community had stuck with their 1947 decision and told the Arabs to shut up and get back in their boxes we wouldn’t be here now either
