    "I came to the conclusion that the very reason they didn’t intervene when Arab nations attacked in 1948 may well have been that they thought the Arabs would win and the whole matter would ge settled forever......both British and Americans were, by then, hostile to Israel for a whole variety of reasons but mostly lingering antisemitism,..."

    So...perhaps the unspoken hope was that they'd be able to complete the Nazis' unfinished business?
