@Sweetsound what a message! thanks, so you lived in one of those beautiful landscapes near the George's river, too! I am still trying to remember the name of the road we lived in near the George's River (probably have some old letters I could dig up), but it was near 'Como' or 'Oatley' - It was a beautiful time of my life, my second child was born there, such a good baby, brilliant pupil/musician later, the one who died 2 1/2 years ago, but I am no longer sad, just grateful for her to have used her talents, to have fulfilled herself. Not many people can say that. Her second and final piano teacher here was a Hungarian Jewish lady, who became a personal friend, fabulous musician and lady with many credits to her name even an order or something - she was 'dame' after that. Her son and family still live in Sydney, must call him.

It was my/our 'Sarsaparilla time' husband had great job and I was at home in this house with garden (and dunny in the backyard @wotsup) - paradise -. We even had an Aussie friend who was a 'confessing' communist (apparently it was an outlawed party for a while) and was waiting for the end of the capitalist world order rolleyes.png - , Well we might be close to that now, but the socialist paradise isn't happening any time soon anywhere. He was almost religious, in a political sense - but had nice family, wife who tolerated his speechifying with a wry smile. But great hosts and he and his uncle who my husband had gotten to know at work, were 'teachers of the Aussie ways' to us in other respects - and they were older than us - he died relatively young, never knowing of the present chaos the world is in. Thanks for the reminder! I hadn't thought of him and his family in years!

re garage sales; I have been to some (never in the morning hours!!) I have never done a sale from my home, but have hired a market stall from time to time on those Sunday markets held in various open places, or the undercroft car parks of big shopping centers. I always bought something as well. I own a few precious things bought at those markets - among other things a hungarian silk embroidered cloth, kalocsa style, which now graces my front entrance - for $36 - years ago now and I guess you would now have to multiply that amount by 4 - but a work of art!! - and I take good care of it.

The markets are good fun, but it's not easy work, will try Gumtree instead.
I have mostly books and a large collection of vinyls - need to get rid of them, but am attached (rolleyes.png) love them and I read them too, haven't read all.
Have recently fished out a book about Aboriginal culture, which I bought when we first came to Australia and I had only ever leaved through it, my husband read it, I remember him being impressed - it's called "Australian Dreamtime" 40,000 Years of Aboriginal History. It is a huge tome - so reading in bed is almost impossible; it's on my coffee table now, in the lounge-room.

Well, look at the time -" get thee to the kitchen, wench!"
Have a wonderful weekend - enjoy your French pastry and a great coffee with it, I hope!
