yesterday was great, I had a small smorgasboard of offerings for my guests of 2 (!) as well as my home-made dip I wrote about - the guy always finishes it off by himself, I had a little leftover this morning. Went back to bed, as yesterday was a pretty-full-on day for me, then some long phone-calls and here I am ready to go out - but had to check on something on computer -
will post picture when strudel is done - will time it, too - it won't look as good as my mother's because I am making it in a square tin -one of those tea-cake tins.

I have been to some of those occasions - was member of an 'ethnic' club once, and we had all sorts of feasts, some out in the open air and a few male sausage-makers etc. knew how to slaughter a pig, a goose - (not for me, nor my mother, who was a country girl bit always cried at the pig killing - but it didn't put her off meat though) - I was once at a Yugoslav outdoors party and the guy in charge of rotating and basting the pig, kept feeding me crackling - really nice, but I got sick afterwards - no-one knew, they were too drunk by then . . . .

Re home-cooking - you can always start your 'restaurant for 1' - maybe put a table out the front with something home-made, as an old friend of mine did (who had lots of money, and no need for charity, but I think he loved the contact with people).
He was a 'strudel specialist' 'exctraordinaire!!! -
He did this after his wife had died: baked strudels for sale - even though he used the bought pastry sheets - and - this in a good suburb - had a weekly offering of three different strudels out the front of his very elegant and expensive home - on a small table - price $6.-- per strudel!!
He came from Northern Yugoslavia, a Svabo! Enough said??
RIP Joe! - I do miss him!
