I’m not familiar with that part of WA, but when looking at some of the aerial photos of the old mine site it looks like cropping country, I’m guessing they run sheep or other livestock, a quick look online says Kattaning has a yearly rainfall of around 731mm / year, I’m no farmer but I don’t think it’s desert like say out near the eastern goldfileds, cheers
