Yes, there is sovereign risk in Malaysia, just ask any long term Lynas investor. They have been subjected to substantial wealth destruction due to baseless claims by anti Lynas fanatics armed with anger, not facts. The facts proved these fanatics to be wrong but at the expense of significant delays and massive share dilution. Lynas has a 6 year track record of safe operation. Lynas has hard scientific data demonstrating it is Eco-friendly and posses no significant risk to workers or residents. Lynas is so confident of their safety, management has moves their families to Malaysia. Tell me how they could show more confidence in their operational safety. Lynas has repeatedly demonstrated to premier international agencies that it is operating well within local and international standards of safety and Eco-responsibility. Despite the massive amount of hard scientific data conclusively demonstrating Lynas is not only meeting but exceeding all local and international regulations, fanatical politicians are using their recently acquired political power to once again express their hatred of Lynas. There is no rational explanation for a review of a company who's operations have been certified safe by world renowned experts, more than once.
Now, imagine you are a company considering investing in Malaysia, you will be thinking what do they have to offer we can't find elsewhere ? What if we accept an open invitation to locate there, like Lynas, only to be eviscerated by fanatics ? Will any investors who are aware of the Lynas story in Malaysia even consider investing in our operation if we locate there ? The damage is done and it's substantial. It need not be permanent, that depends on how quickly Malaysia moves to simply confirm the data offered by internationally recognized experts who have evaluated LAMP operation and declared it safe. While Malaysia has already lost a substantial number of foreign investors looking for a favorable location, they can still recover by acting responsibly and quickly. I feel that's what we're seeing now as the PM has made it clear that Mrs. Fuziah speaks for herself, not his government. The PM has made it clear he wants more foreign investment, not less.
