A major qualm in Malaysia is the radioactive waste remains on Malaysian soil where they feel it should be sent back to Australia if its not as hazardous as Lynas says.
Lynas cant send it back to Australia as for equally precautionary reasons as far as I've read.
This may well be a big bone of contention in the review and it hasn’t been addressed in the last 6 years or it wouldn't be actively stated in Malaysian media.
Another issue is not the safety of the past operation. But the potential for accident (natural or otherwise) causing environmental contamination. Such potential issues have precautionary measures in play but they haven't all been tested over the past 6 years either. So they remain at large, a threat and will also be under discussion by the review board.
