In a nutshell, when the dividends are announced it will contain info on the cum div date and ex div date. Cum div = with dividend, Ex Div = without dividend, so if you want the dividend you can sell it after the Ex Div date and still receive the dividend, likely the stock will drop by that amount anyway so it only really matters if you want to do one or the other for tax reasons or you think the stock will move in the meantime.
TLDR: The ex div date is what matters not the announcement.
