The Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) formed last year by 14 governments aims to ensure adequate supplies of minerals such as lithium and rare earths to meet zero-carbon goals.

“We’re now looking at 15 projects on five continents, ranging from extraction to processing,” Jose Fernandez, US State Department under secretary for economic growth, energy and the environment, told a briefing in London. “It’s our intent is to get some deals done in the next few months.” Hhmm, about the same time we expect to hear from the DOE LPO. Could be a coincidence.

They mention lithium and rare earths along with extraction to processing. Thacker Pass and Lynas immediately came to mind. Then again, so did Mozambique and the U.S. who bolstered ties for security and economic growth 2 weeks ago. President Nyusi expressed gratitude for the support and reaffirmed Mozambique's commitment to combat terrorism and improve maritime domain awareness. He also invited the U.S. to conduct military-to-military training and welcomed U.S. Navy vessels to make port visits to Mozambique.

The $150m DFC conditional loan was announced a fortnight before the meeting sending a strong positive message to the Moz Govt the US are serious with wanting to work with them. Apropos of nothing but the US seems to be tying up some loose ends. Why would the US loan SYR $150m which will mainly be used to finish building the 2nd TSF when SYR are barely using the existing TSF, which is huge, atm?
