The subsidies are phased in. ATM, only specific EV's qualify regardless where the battery and critical minerals come from. From Jan 1, the battery has to be manufactured in the US but the minerals can still come from anywhere. From 2025, 40% of the critical minerals must be processed from a FTA country or the US with the percentage increasing every year. The feed stock can't come from an unfriendly country but whether it can come from a non FTA but friendly country is still unclear.
If the critical minerals feed stock do have to come from a FTA country, the US still has 12 months to sign a FTA with Moz for graphite.
Having the subsidy come off the sticker price of the vehicle instead of waiting for your tax return refund will get a lot more people through the door. I'm expecting the vehicles which qualify will be expanded.
I've changed my mind and don't think there will be an announcement before the conference. If Vidalia is finished, Shaun will want to be at the plant for the official ceremony. SYR have to first announce it on the ASX but if you look at the logistics, it can't be done on Monday if he needs to be in LA first thing Tuesday for the conference. He'd want to be there Monday night instead of trying to get there in the morning from Vidalia. He had a flight cancelled last year to get to a presentation. The diggers and dealers I think or might have been Adelaide.
