Apparently AustraliaSuper was not lending shares to shorters, or at least that was their position last time I checked. Anyway I dropped them a line this morning and asked them again if they are lending members shares to funds for the purpose of shorting. Lets see if I get a reply.
I would not be surprised if naked shorting is also happening on ASX given how useless our ASIC is when it comes to compliance and by their own admission " While we will monitor compliance with short position reporting and provide additional guidance where necessary, we are unable to verify the accuracy of all individual reports submitted to ASIC, nor to verify that all short sellers in our market (both in Australia and overseas) are lodging reports."
At least 2 of the companies caught in the naked shorts scandal in SK are also involved with SYR on ASX so not that far fetched to suggest it can also happen over here. https://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/news/2023-10-17/business/finance/FSS-considers-criminal-charges-against-BNP-Paribas-HSBC/1892026
