The main problem with LiB's used for BESS is >96% are manufactured in China. All of those are LFP and packed full of synthetic in which China has no shortage of supply. BESS aren't as heavily dependant on energy density as EV's so synthetic suit them because they have a longer recharging lifecycle. China have banned BESS batteries being made from nickel.

You have me thinking though. If China do limit graphite exports, the West will use all they can get for the $500B they're investing in EV's. This will allow China to continue cornering the BESS market. I've always said the West won't be able to manufacture enough graphite for EV's to become self reliant until 2040 if ever.

It may force the West to invest it an alternate technology for BESS like vanadium flow batteries???

Yes, my 120GWh was from the Benchmark numbers (13% of 934GWh). Rhomotion will probably end up closer to 100GWh for 2023. Still, my point is that it's a significant base now with the key point being the very rapid growth rate. My view here is that the more demand the better, whether its China or not. I totally agree with your assessment with ex-China graphite supply being totally inadequate and hope also that capital is poured in to address this. Especially since these plants take so long to build out while the demand growth so rapidly. I saw you jumped into NVX likely for this reason
