Europe is facing key challenges as it scales its lithium ion battery supply chain, according to panellists at Benchmark’s Giga Europe 2024. “Electrification is here to stay. It’s now about European competitiveness. We’ve gone from ambition to putting money where our mouth is,” said Jessica Olsson, Head of Europe Energy & Transport at Business Sweden.

“In the next five years, all of these raw material markets, whether it’s lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite, whatever it may be, are expected to go through a period of deficit,” said Rawles, at the inaugural keynote presentation at Benchmark’s Giga Europe 2024 -
Me - But come 1 Jan 2025 there is going to be a deficit of IRA compliant graphite not to mention Europe reaching its 40% processed on-shore graphite target.
The global EV landscape is complicated and it's not about to get any easier to understand anytime soon.
