Hi AIM80T ..... the Medasense NOL finger cuff is not invasive either - I read it as just a kind of thimble.
But the ‘first to market’ is a valid point.
Also that first study into dementia pain was only launched ten days ago and the product was developed - as @zidane123 said- for high level clinical settings - where the original status quo vs pain response to surgical procedures is likely to be far more extreme than in a dementia patient ?
Also most dementia patients are older, and ageing is accompanied by dehydration and circulation issues which may affect the intensity of readings
...... also if a patient is flailing about it may be hard to get a finger cuff on - unless it was already strapped in place .
Painchek also has the two new apps in development and, as Phillip has also said, the children’s one has bigger potential than the dementia app.
Still it would be good if the Painchek team can catch up on their own estimates re the government grant roll out and get the Australian RAC market bonded to the product.
If the slowness does relate to RAC economics of there being not enough non verbal dementia patients exhibiting pain to warrant signing all dementia patients up, they could simply reduce the price just to get the app into the market?
Neither product has FDA approval so it would be interesting to see where Medasense is with that, and also to know what the uptake is in the clinical setting.
Also I suspect Phillip Daffas has been well aware of the product for a long time; Medasense has a highly accomplished board of directors - https://medasense.com/board-of-directors - including the high profile Sydney-based ‘Board Observer’, Robert Gavshon
https://www.quartetventures.com.au/robert-gavshon
According to Domain he is one of the ‘rich list’
https://www.domain.com.au/news/quay...rontrow-view-of-vivid-20180615-h10zr9-439931/.
- He might have even been the one to suggest to Medasense that it apply its tech to dementia after reading about Painchek !?
