I can relate to your reference re time in Asia. I have experienced home palliative care in Thailand (although offered superior private respite alternative in 2 family members situations) - just village/country tradition but how brutal for the person and family/friends as observed with other family relatives/friends also. Very little focus on health throughout SEA countries by govts (again reasons known but at leats everyone can see a doctor for 30 baht/$1.40 these days re Taksin) I have visited regularly - only for the wealthy and easy to see their origins.
Although a couple of decades behind you it would appear - I grew up on Dylan and Young amongst others of the era.
