While "larger studies provide stronger and more reliable results because they have smaller margins of error and lower standards of deviation", you can still have statistically significant results from lower sample numbers. If 5 out of 10 patients are cured of cancer, that is incredibly statistically significant.
These patients have tried and failed several previous treatments. For them to become cancer free in a trial where the drug doesn't actually do anything is literally an impossibility. So yeah, even if 5 out of 10 had disease control or remission, that would be very much statistically significant.
