I've just caught up listening to Yuman Fong on the "On The Edge of Breakthrough" podcast and will share my thoughts.
Yuman Fong is a worldly man. He is a holistic individual who is changing the oncology landscape in many areas. CF33 is but one of his ventures. YF successfully completed a remote surgery simulation in space, from Earth. It was the first ever. Remarkable. YF believes remote surgery is the future and highlighted how it is already being successfully utilised in jurisdictions with fewer regulatory hurdles (for example, China). He posited "would you prefer a surgeon who has done 10 surgeries, or a surgeon who has done 2,000 and can do it remotely". YF is a musician and has a family band named "Fong Shui". He still continues to learn new musical instruments so he can connect with his children and grandchildren. The interviewer, who I believe is from the City of Hope (or is certainly familiar with CoH), had no idea Yuman Fong's CD19-directed oncolytic virus. The interviewer was impressed and described it as "exciting". YF said the virus itself kills cancer and ALSO paints the CD-19 protein as a target for CAR-T therapies - almost inferring a secondary crack at killing the cancerous cells. My takeaway from this is even a doctor from City of Hope, familiar with YF on professional and personal levels, was unaware of OnCARlytics. This product remains a sleeping giant, as does Imugene as a company. It's a little ozzie biotech which is on nobody's radar... yet.
Speaking with the now-departed Dr. Giovanni Selvaggi in 2023 at an investor conference, he spoke of Yuman Fong's stature and respect as a world-renowned surgeon. Giovanni explained that YF is a very wealthy man (as a world-leading surgeon would be), and that his work was not at all motivated by money. Giovanni said Professor Fong genuinely wanted to cure cancer and that he may well one day win a Nobel prize. This has been mentioned by other posters and are not my words but the words of a the former CMO. YF spoke in the podcast about Stage 1 & 2 cancers having curaitve treatments, but he is looking for the more advanced cancers, Stage 3 & 4, which is where Vaxinia and OnCARlytics are being trialled. YF may have offloaded some IMU shares for a myriad of reasons, but I highly doubt he is looking at the Imugene SP. YF has multiple fingers in numerous pies as he attempts to revolutionise the oncology landscape - AI, robotics, remote surgeries, oncolytic viruses - what an impressive individual. His exuberance when he speaks of his viruses in human trials is tangible.
For shareholders it's very difficult to hold trough such sustained downward pressure. However, if we zoom out a little, and remember that clinical trials require TIME, we may well be on a revolutionary journey which we are lucky to be part of. I hope so for patients and shareholders alike.
DYOR, all the best, chur.
