let's remember it's 100m down and the rest on milestones.... in its simplest form it's an option to acquire... there is nothing to say a similar approach from Merc or someone else could not be done.
In their world (BP) it's a small investment to ensure that if it does perform as they all hope it will then their in the driving seat.
