My novice understanding........BioNtech were/are essentially a company focussed on mRNA Cancer therapeutics until COVID came along. They switched their focus temporarily, and using the same technology created the BioNtech/Pfizer vaccine. With the billions they made from this they now have the ability to fully fund their entire pipeline of mRNA therapeutics and cell therapies. Alot of them are in Phase 1 and 2 trials now targeting various cancers including multiple solid tumour types.

I think in general its fair to say the jury is still out on mRNA in cancer treatments. There is/was alot of hype around the potential, but I'm not sure there's been anything groundbreaking come out in terms of results yet in early trials.
