The 160 m3/d plant mentioned in the EIR has been scaled up to 650 m3/d, to not only handle the port terminal passengers, but to also treat the local Port Royal Town sewage which was already deemed as inadequate prior to the increase in passengers to the area.
It will now be a SUBRE custom greenfield plant.


Jamaica is currently the 2nd fastest growing market for MABR technology for Fluence outside China (and the leading market for SUBRE), with 4 SUBRE custom designed greenfield projects now won with a total capacity of 5410 m3/d. Jamaica has been a target market since Emefcy days, and that work is now paying off, with a lot of other opportunities available and a seeming lack of strong competition. Jamaica has a population of approximately 3 million, and only about 700,000 of them are connected to the National Water Commission wastewater facilities. The most opportunity seems to be linked to the National Housing Trust, as new builds or expansions now require a sewage plant to be built along with the houses.

In comparison in China, there has been approximately 16,000 m3/d of MABR projects won to date across 64 projects (excluding approximately 10 demonstration projects), the majority of which are currently being either constructed or commissioned.
