Webinar on results of testing was presented last night (in Spanish) by Cristina Cornet.

The Aspiral S1 was run at loads higher than it was designed for at CENTA in Spain.

Conclusion

• During the validation period (May 2019 - March 2020) of the Aspiral S1 equipment at the CENTA Foundation facilities, the discharge requirements established in directive 91/271/EEC have been met, regarding the elimination of COD, BOD5 and SST and NT . High reductions in PT have also been achieved, both in concentration and in percentage, without the need to resort to the addition of chemical reagents.

• Specifically, the effluent NT requirements were met during the two established periods despite load fluctuations, demonstrating that small, low-maintenance systems do not compromise effluent quality.

• The biological elimination of PT was very effective and can be increased by adding chemical reagents, using the selector tank and EBPR (Enhanced Bio Phosphorus Removal).

The Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (full title Council Directive 91/271/EEC of 21 May 1991 concerning urban waste-water treatment) is a European Union directive regarding urban waste water collection, waste water treatment and its discharge, as well as the treatment and discharge of "waste water from certain industrial sectors". It was adopted on 21 May 1991.[1] It aims "to protect the environment from the adverse effects of urban waste water discharges and discharges from certain industrial sectors" by mandating waste water collection and treatment in urban agglomerations with a population equivalent of over 2000, and more advanced treatment in places with a population equivalent above 10,000 in sensitive areas.
