The PS3 Wastewater Treatment Plant in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, is now officially operational and stands as the world’s largest newly built plant using MABR (Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor) technology, with a daily treatment capacity of 20,000 cubic meters. The plant was built just 4 meters from a river, requiring advanced anti-sedimentation and anti-corrosion measures to ensure safe discharge into the sea.
This marks Fluence’s third major project in the area, following PS1 and PS2, bringing the total treatment capacity to over 32,400 cubic meters daily. This is enough to meet the region’s needs for the next 25 years. MABR technology, a highlight of all three plants, dramatically cuts energy use (up to 50% compared to some traditional methods) while boosting nutrient removal and operational efficiency.
