Fluence presents a solution that allows a reduction of up to 30% in the aeration energy of wastewater treatment plants
May 31, 2019
Through Fluence's SUBRE technology, the use of chemical products is reduced, saving energy and operating costs, while increasing the capacity of the plant.
Fluence Argentina, a leading company in the markets for decentralized treatment of water, effluents and reuse, presents its SUBRE solution, a technology designed for the removal of nutrients, one of the main problems worldwide. Among its benefits are: improving the quality of the effluent, reducing the use of chemical products, saving energy up to 30% more than using traditional aeration methods, and reducing operating costs by the same percentage.
Currently, many plants use methanol to comply with effluent discharge standards with strict parameters in nutrient removal. Methanol is dangerous, toxic and flammable, making the plant complex and large, in addition to presenting an additional cost for the operation of the plant. From the use of the SUBRE technology, the most demanding discharge requirements can be met, achieving a better biological removal of nitrogen and phosphorus, and the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant can be increased.
Mario Pastinante, President of Fluence Argentina and Managing Director of Fluence Corporation for South America, says: "Although it is a technology with little time in the Argentine market, there are already several companies that have selected this type of treatment due to its high energy efficiency and high capacity for nutrient removal. Worldwide we have more than 20 facilities. " And it adds: "The SUBRE configurations lend MABR technology innovation to large-scale conventional effluent treatment plants, expanding treatment capacity to accommodate higher flows; providing an intensified elimination of nutrients to comply with the strict regulations; and moving towards a neutral energy treatment, without requiring any additional footprint of the plant. "
For his part, Henry Charrabé, Executive Director and CEO of Fluence, commented: "With the increase in urbanization, existing effluent treatment facilities face new challenges. When a conventional effluent treatment facility has reached its limit, the SUBRE technology offered by Fluence solves these challenges. Instead of expanding existing plants and building new enclosures, SUBRE modules are submerged in existing chambers, which improves the quality of effluents, reduces the use of chemical products, saves energy and operating costs and increases capacity. In addition, the SUBRE technology can be installed in effluent treatment plants for new facilities, which reduces infrastructure needs and operating costs compared to traditional plants. "
SUBRE Solutions
The SUBRE solution based on aerated membrane biofilm technology (MABR) is available in two configurations: as an existing plant upgrade (Retrofit) and as a totally new plant (Greenfield). A SUBRE Retrofit solution is designed to update existing enclosures with capacities of 2,000-100,000 m 3 / day. While, a SUBRE Greenfield solution is custom designed to customer specifications, with deployment space and reduced power requirements, for difficult or remote locations.
SUBRE MABR modules from Fluence are easy to install and highly efficient in the use of energy. In addition, they are characterized by being profitable, and achieve the simultaneous elimination of nutrients to ensure a high quality of the effluent. For this purpose, all modules are subjected to a rigorous quality control.
Ongoing projects of SUBRE in America
Fluence will build two SUBRE facilities with local Jamaican partner Engineering and Technology Associates, Inc. ("ETA") to service two new housing developments in the Kingston and Spanish Town areas of Jamaica, owned by the National Housing Trust ("NHT"). ). The projects will be operated by the National Water Commission ("NWC").
The first installation will consist of 12 SUBRE modules each formed by 3 MABR spirals and will treat up to 1,400 m 3 / day of domestic effluents. The second installation will consist of 6 SUBRE modules and will treat up to 760 m 3 / day. The treated water will be suitable for non-potable reuse.
