At present, there are 131 townships (streets) and 1,722 administrative villages in the city with 8,869 sewage treatment facilities, and most of the daily processing capacity is below 30 tons.
Hangzhou will implement 3,000 upgrading of rural sewage treatment facilities, including 40 in Xihu District, 350 in Xiaoshan District and 210 in Yuhang District. 440 in Fuyang District, 550 in Lin'an District, 700 in Tonglu County, 260 in Jiande City, and 450 in Chun'an County. All the tasks are planned to be completed by the end of December. The related projects involve more than 900 administrative villages and beneficiaries. More than 500,000 people affected.
This is about upgrading currently installed wastewater treatment equipment with more suitable solutions. At 30 m3/d, some of these sites are going to be too small for a MABR solution consideration. You have to consider that our partner Zhejiang Tiandi will be bidding for some of this work, and some sites will just be too small in monetary value for them to consider the work. Compare them to someone like an Australian Watpac/Leighton/John Holland/Downer EDI. Would they bid on a contract to renovate a country pub?
So where there is value and there is need for 100-1000 m3/d of treatment, Zhejiang Tiandi may bid, but in a lot of cases they will not. If you average out 500,000 people by the 3000 plants, there are around 166 people to a plant of 30 m3/d. Due to the distance involved being rural areas, combining treatment facilities from separate villages may not be feasible, as this is a renovation/equipment upgrade project and most sites have already been built.
As I said in the previous post, there have been indications that in rural areas, sewage piping networks get damaged and fall into disrepair, and leakage is a big problem for the environment as this untreated sewage flows directly into waterways. Combining smaller plants into larger centralised sites increases the length of piping, and therefore increases potential of pipe leakage. There is a balance in there somewhere, but you'd have to have the population density ratios of each village to figure it out.
You may find out of the 3000 sites, there are only 10% that are a suitable size and cost for MABR consideration, then you may have a few other treatment types considered from some of the other pilot demonstration villages and have to win competitive bidding against those companies, so counting dollars and potential is a difficult game. However, there are around 58 million people in Zhejiang province, and every day, they all produce wastewater, so as long as MABR is being sold, there is opportunity.
