Thanks FinFree. As a health professional I see a role for digital test results much sooner in Australia and don’t believe this needs to be in the home testing context. The absence of this is one of the major limitations in uptake in Australia, since our hospitals, GP services and diagnostic tests are funded by the federal government and have governance oversight led by clinicians.

The first company to connect a digital reader to the My Health Record or a similar government database will have a massive first mover advantage, fulfilling the needs of patients (fast test results), clinicians (an accurate, accessible record of test results) and funders (able to measure the number of tests being done, monitor the results, target potential pathology rebates accordingly). I suspect it’s not too far off at all. A simple amendment to the TGA approval could do the trick for Atomo - or for any competitor.
