Last year (2022) , China saw more deaths than births, according to government data publicized this week. Officials said 10.41 million people died while 9.56 million were born.
My personal view is that this will stablise in the next 2-3 years or even a possible increase. End of zero covid is likely to result an increase in births as the economy improves and people no longer deferring their plans to commence a family. Its unlkely that the births will ever trend up over the long term in the next couple of decades. Overall, I think its a good thing, as population in China is already huge; and a decrease in popualtion will imprve the quality of life and increase in net wages per capita. Also, China has a huge reserve workforce, as many blue and white collar workers are forced to retire at very young ages between 50-55.
