The major supermarkets drive a tough bargain for all their suppliers? Profit margins might be thin anyway at Coles and Woolworths, + the major markets are by far now in Asia, especially China for quality but also now South Korea and other Asia.
Plus the US expansion.

Also if produced in New Zealand , Australia also- it is best to containerise and directly ship to Asia or elsewhere and sell in US dollars equivalent. The NZ dollar , Aust dollar also been very low against the US.

As an ex primary producer, it wasn’t as if the Australian market was primary concern, even if a significant supply destination.

The global price for your commodity is what matters ,
than subtracting freight and costs associated with shipping & end- sales + delivery.

But especially if you have a brand reputation premium.. overseas and elsewhere.. , and if your brand reputation is not as important locally -for infant formula.
Although customers will ensure to buy it where they can likely anyway if is preferred .
Discerning Australian consumers can afford to plan their purchases from where they need to buy surely.

I have been in other companies where premium local product producers gave up supplying to the major Australian supermarkets or sold their food and nutrition division, or targeted convenience / service station outlets eg if a beverage, and most ultimately get taken over anyways if profitable and established products & production and supply chains & growing .

Premium meat, premium seafood, premium wines, the greatest bulk of production in a packaged health/energy product, small quality packaged prepared vegetables for instance — has gone to Asia & some elsewhere, for many years now.

What matters surely — is the company figures for profits, product growth and development and market share and importance and development. Not how well shelves are stocked at individual Coles and Woolies or even overall in these major supermarkets.

As correctly mentioned many times- there is availability either directly or close to most customers, with parking handy right out the front , via Chemist Warehouse. Chemist Warehouse outlets have been extremely important for A2 milk infant formulas for many years now. Staff were & for sure still be well- trained & accustomed to bulk sales of A2 milk formula cans.

Don't disagree with many of your points ..... however we only have one main product not a multitude and if we put all of our eggs in one basket (China) and China says no thanks I dont want a basket or the eggs.... like a Coles chicken, we are stuffed. PS also why have an expensive GM then?
